Welcome evening
New Members Night
An evening set aside purely to welcome people who have been thinking about joining a local chess club. No pressure, no commitment and no need to be any good at chess — just a friendly room, a few boards and someone happy to chat to you.
Free to attend. Refreshments provided — no need to book, just come along.
What the evening is for
A chance to see what the club is really like
Joining a club can feel like a big step, especially if you would rather not walk into a room full of strangers mid-tournament. This evening is different: everyone there is new, and the whole point is to help you feel at home.
The evening at a glance
Two relaxed hours, no agenda
- 6:00pmDoors open, tea and coffee on
Come in, find a seat and meet whoever is already there.
- 6:15pmBoards set up
Pair up with someone of a similar level, or ask for a hand if you are still learning the pieces.
- 7:00pmChat to members about the club
League matches, how Tuesday nights work, costs, and what happens if you want to play competitively later on.
- 8:00pmHome time
Finish your game, grab a biscuit and head off — or stay on for our normal club evening if you would like to.
A loose guide only — the evening is informal and nothing is scheduled to the minute.
